Six Thinking Hats is a strategy devised by Edward de Bono which requires students
to extend their way of thinking about a topic by wearing a range of different ’thinking‘ hats.
Dr Edward de Bono is one of the very few people in history who can be said to have had a major impact on the way we think. In many ways he could be said to be the best known thinker internationally.
The White Hat calls for information known or needed. "The facts, just the facts."
The Yellow Hat symbolizes brightness and optimism. Under this hat you explore the positives and probe for value and benefit.
The Black Hat is judgment - the devil's advocate or why something may not work. Spot the difficulties and dangers; where things might go wrong. Probably the most powerful and useful of the Hats but a problem if overused.
The Red Hat signifies feelings, hunches and intuition. When using this hat you can express emotions and feelings and share fears, likes, dislikes, loves, and hates.
The Green Hat focuses on creativity; the possibilities, alternatives, and new ideas. It's an opportunity to express new concepts and new perceptions.
The Blue Hat is used to manage the thinking process. It's the control mechanism that ensures the Six Thinking Hats® guidelines are observed.This interpretation could be use to help us to define and come out for a solution. Usually when somebody encounter with an issue the use their Emotion - The Red Hat. Try to look upon an issue in 360 degree by applying this concept.
Let try to implement an issue using this concept.
" The price of oil increase burden Malaysian"
White Hat (Objective):
The price of the oil burden the Malaysian due to the after effect of its increment. The price of daily usage will increase due to the increase of the process cost of the product.
Yellow Hat(Positive):
Increase of oil price will help government to reduce depth and focus their budget to build a better future for Malaysian.
Black Hat(Negative):
Increase of oil price will encounter rage among the Malaysian user.
Red Hat(Intuitive):
The government did not care about user right. They just increase the price for their own benefits.
Green Hat(Creative):
Instead of increase of oil price government could just find a way to cut cost by holding less important project and use that money to subsidised the oil industry and the user could share car or use public transport to minimize the use of petrol.
Blue Hat(Process):
Seem that it a global issue, we must explore green hat thinking to cope up with this matter.
The reason for me to share this because i find this topic is interesting. We always think in a single hat to find solution. Let emotion take control of our action. So think before you act. Think the Six Thinking Hat.
